The Words of My Mother

The Words of My Mother

I live my life through the words of my mother. She taught me that by serving the Lord and staying true to my faith, I can look after my family. I’ve gone through a lot of struggles in my life, but without hardship we don’t get to appreciate the wonderful things. Being homeless for so long was one of the lowest times in my life, but with a community like Earthlinks, I can appreciate the love and support that I am surrounded by. I don’t know where I would be today without their help. My name is Kathy, and I was born and raised in Pueblo,...

Everyone in Your Corner

Everyone in Your Corner

My name is Michael, but call me Mike, it’s easier for the both of us if you do. You’ll see me come into Earthlinks a few times a week. My daily routine goes as follows: I wake up at 4:00 am and get my day going by listening to my international radio stations, especially the BBC. After I make breakfast, and take my insulin. I make my way to the bus station at about 6:00 am. I’ll be at Earthlinks before 8:00 am. It’s this very morning routine that feels unreal to me. A few years ago, I was at a point where I didn’t know if I would ever see...

That Infinite Night Sky

That Infinite Night Sky

My name is Ruth, and I know first hand that homelessness can happen to anyone. It was 1984 when I stepped off the plane in Denver. I looked up and was shocked to see how much open sky there was. It was a very freeing change of scenery for me, coming from a small town in Alabama. Those tall southern trees tower over everything, and the sky gets shaded out. I love Colorado for its change of seasons, but my love for the outdoors stems from my childhood memories of those Alabama forests. It amazes me how many parks there are in Denver. One can...

Adventurer finds his way home

My name is Paul. I was born and raised in Golden, Colorado. I have seen EarthLinks grow in amazing ways. From the St. Francis location to the time we were on Larimer St, and now to see it in Sun Valley on 13th and Decatur. I walk out to our garden sometimes and think about how Earthlinks is like afamily to me through thick and thin. I remember when Golden was just a small American mid west town, where everyone knew everybody’s business. I loved my town and the gorgeous views of Lookout Mountain right from my yard. As nice as that was, I...

Gianna’s Goodbye

For the past year, I have worked at EarthLinks as a full time volunteer through the Colorado Vincentian Volunteers.  It has been an overwhelmingly joyful year working at EarthLinks.  It is so difficult to believe that an entire year has come and gone.  In saying my good-byes, I’ve been able to realize the abundance of blessings and lessons I’ve experienced in this past year.  The following is something I read to participants and staff during my last days at EarthLinks: “Another morning and I wake with the thirst for goodness I go out to the...

EarthLinks: A Fun Place to Visit And Volunteer

If you’ve been to a local church craft or world market fair, you’ve probably seen some of EarthLinks’ beautiful, practical gifts. Participants make these items on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings during EarthLinks’ Workshop Program. The materials are flowers and gourds from the garden; honey and beeswax from the bees; wood, jars, cans, license plates and bike tire earrings. For 15 years, I have been volunteering weekends to sell these products at sales across the metro area. Only after retiring, though, could I visit EarthLinks during...
