Sam’s Story

Sam was a carpenter for thirty years. It was all he knew but he could not do it forever. He suffered from carpal tunnel in his left hand so bad that he would wake up with his fingers wrapped tight in a fist, as if still holding his hammer. His knees were getting worn out too. And then he broke his back. Sam who had been a carpenter for thirty years, could no longer do it. Sam had difficulties finding another job he qualified for or that his overworked body could stand to carry out. One thing led to another and Sam became homeless. But after several years of living out of a van, Sam’s...

John’s Story

John came to EarthLinks, a Veteran with health and addiction issues. He was homeless and isolated. Within five years, John walked out of EarthLinks sober and on the way to stable housing. He had done it! John continued to come back to EarthLinks during winter months to help with snow removal, riding over on a fixed-up bike that was donated to EarthLinks. He’d help out on special projects if it didn’t interfere with his full-time job. But a week ago John stopped by and said he would not be coming this winter. We were concerned. Was something wrong? What he said next validated the very...

#BEEearthlinks

Let’s see how far our EarthLinks’ bees will make it! Bees are so important to our environment and food supply. We take pride in the bee hives we care for in our Peace Garden and without our little friends, we wouldn’t be able to grow the incredible flowers, herbs, and food that we provide for our community. Unfortunately over the years bee populations have been dwindling due to habitat loss and pesticide use. In the span of just seven years, the United States saw an approximate average rate of 1.6 million bees die off each year, totalling ten million bees. We need your help to...

Just Like any Other Day

I’m Charles. I was 19 and fresh outta high school when I married my high school sweetheart. We were from a rural town called Middletown in Minnesota. After saving up for a couple of years, we moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado. She wanted to attend Colorado State University for pre-med and I wanted to be by her. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with Colorado. The views of the Rockies were beautiful and the weather was perfect. I found work at a lumber yard, and we both had demanding schedules so it was really hard to make time for each other. As hectic as our lives were, we couldn’t...
